    The main left/right switches are on separate PCBs to ensure that their orientation is normal to the direction of travel for the main keys. This makes the click more direct, and helps it be more consistent.

    The entire key design is new from the ground up to remove inconsistency and tighten tolerances. With standard keys, even on the G303 and G302, clicking requires deforming a plastic hinge at the cost of extra force being required to overcome the inherent stiffness of that hinge. As an example, we tested 30 units of a competitor's product and found that the actual force required to click the nominally 60gf microswitch was somewhere between 54 and 90g. With G900 over 30 units we reduced that tolerance to be between around 56 and 65g.

    The reason we're able to achieve this is the pivot design. We insert a metal bar with a POM bushing through a pivot point near the back of the key, then use a spring to remove pretravel and lightly preload the switch. This removes the extra effort required to click a standard key and makes the click force/profile more consistent from unit to unit. We also do individual force curve testing on the main keys of every G900 that comes off the production line to ensure that they are consistent and within spec.

    Feature sets are designed to meet a specific need. As an example, G900 was designed to be a wireless mouse that addresses concerns about latency, batteries dying during critical moments, and weight. G302 was designed to be easy to spam click and move rapidly and repeatedly in MOBA games, and so forth. Sometimes we design features that don't end up making it into a product, but we might save and reintroduce them in a future project where they more sense. We do a significant amount of research and testing on every aspect of the product, including the way it looks and feels.
