  Thanks for your comments. I downloaded Netfront v3.5.

  I then accessed the web after connecting to the BT Voyager
  from which I have previously been unable to surf the web
  despite being connected.

  Netfront however allowed me to browse with no problems
  then when I tried IE and Opera which came with the i900
  these worked too with no problems.

  I have since done a soft re-start several times and can now access the
  web with no problems.

  Perhaps Netfront has introduced some new settings which have
  unblocked the problem?
