Exchange Connectivity technologist for European Cash and Listed Derivative Markets

    For our Budapest Office

The continuous rapid growth in European markets requires Morgan Stanley to maintain and enhance its electronic trading capability across a still growing number of exchanges. These include primary cash stock exchanges (LSE, Xetra etc); MTF markets (CHI-X, BATS, Turquoise); derivative exchanges (EUREX, LIFFE etc) throughout Europe. We are also expanding our footprint outside of these markets and support connections to exchanges in Moscow, Dubai and are looking to add Emerging Eastern European markets. These direct connections are supplemented and supported with additional broker connections that extend our reach and capability beyond markets where Morgan Stanley is not a member but is very active. The rapid deployment and support of key exchange connectivity infrastructure is vital to the Firm. The team and its work viewed by the trading desks and the business units as a key differentiator for our franchise. We are essential in many new business ventures such as our Dark Pool offerings and market making initiatives. We are at the fore front of projects to reduce transaction costs and latency. On these projects we build ground up solutions from analysis, design, development and deployment including migration of production flows.

The exchange connectivity team is a blend of very experienced C++ developers on Linux platform, experts in Shell scripting and Perl programming, experienced project managers and infrastructure engineers. The global team is spread across New York, India and the Far East. The team is responsible for all software and hardware infrastructure for exchange connectivity. It is also responsible for design, development and deployment of in-house C++ exchange gateways that convert from internal Morgan Stanley FIX to the specifics of each exchange’s API. There are very few third party software solutions used for exchange gateways. The production plant is managed through proprietary XML based configuration management tool on Linux.

The team currently has 400+ production processes through which all Morgan Stanley’s on exchange cash equity and listed Derivative trading flow is routed. We regularly send over 1 million orders a day through this plant. Across the entire plant, we are processing around 30 orders a second. This represents a significant processing capability and is one that we are continually working on to improve and enhance.

    Responsibilities:

    • Point person for queries / questions – opportunity to become an expert in terms of both market micro structure and also on the technical connectivity side.
    • Analysis / FIX and XML integration / project management / coordination for mandatory and discretionary cash projects.

    • Order Router (exchange gateway process) turnovers.

    • Production support and outage resolution.

    Skills required:

    • Prior development experience in any programming language is desired.
    • Experience working directly with the trading desks in Fixed Income, Cash Equity, portfolio trading or listed derivatives is preferred.
